AUDITOR
An official whose job is to scrupulously inspect the accuracy of business records. An auditor can either be a captive auditor, an independent auditor (who are not affiliated with the company being audited), or even elected public officials. The term is at at times synonymous with the "comptroller." Auditors are employed to make sure that organizations are maintaining honest and accurate financial statements and records.
