BAROMETER STOCK
A security whose performance is taken as an indicator of the a specific industry or sector's performance, or even the market as a whole. The barometer stock is taken as a scale for the whole sector or market. Analyst usually look to barometer stocks to forecast the direction that a market or industry is probably headed in the short term.
Also called as bellwether stock.
