CREDIT DEFAULT SWAP - CDS
Swap designed to protect lenders should the borrower default in his debt obligations. CDS transfers credit exposure of fixed income products between parties. It also pertains to a credit derivative contract in which the swap purchaser settles his payment to the swap seller until the contract’s maturity date. In exchange, the seller will pay off a third party debt should it default on the loan.
