EATING STOCK
Occurrence when an underwriter is forced to purchase a security for his own account when there are insufficient buyers. This is frequently applicable to underwriters of an initial public offering, if a particular level of subscription is guaranteed but not met. It allows the firm to go public to have a better estimation for the amount of capital it will generate from the offering.
