EFFECTIVE INTEREST METHOD
Accounting practice for the discount in which a bond is sold as an interest expense to be amortized over the lifespan of the bond. The additional interest expense is computed using the standard market interest rate at the time the bond is issued. The market rate is multiplied by the bond’s book value to determine the amount to be amortized as interest expense every period.
