GREAT DEPRESSION
Deepest and longest-lasting economic recession, which started on October 29, 1929 after the stock market crash of the US stock market. Originated in the United States, it quickly spread in Europe and the rest of the world. Lasting nearly a decade, consumer spending and investment declined, pressed Wall Street to panic, and erased millions of investors. This led to massive levels of hunger, poverty, unemployment, and political unrest.
