IO
Interest portion of mortgage that is stripped and sold individually from the principal portion of the similar payments. Treasury or other bonds, the periodic payments of various bonds can be separated to create artificial zero-coupon bonds. Also, an IO strip may be part of an asset-backed security (ABS), collateralized debt obligation (CDO) structure or collateralized mortgage obligation (CMO).
