LOCK-UP PERIOD
An interval in which investors of a hedge fund or other investment vehicle cannot be sold or redeemed. It helps portfolio managers to avoid liquidity problems while the capital is put to work in occasionally illiquid investments. In IPO, employees cannot sell their shares, usually from 90 to 180 days.
