LONG LEG
A portion of an option which involves buying an option on the underlying asset. It includes purchasing and simultaneously selling an option on an asset such as stock. Since purchasing a put or call in such a spread is equal to "going long" on the option, it means long leg of the spread. Likewise, as selling a put or call in such a spread is equivalent to "going short" on the option, it pertains short leg of the spread.
