MARKET VALUE OF EQUITY
Total market value of all of a company’s outstanding shares. To calculate the market value of equity, multiply the firm’s stock price at present by the number of outstanding shares. The company’s market value of equity always varies because the two variables change. It is different from the book value of equity; the former does not take into account the firm’s growth potential. Synonymous to market capitalization.
