SALOMON BROTHERS

Salomon Brothers was one of the largest Wall Street bulge bracket financial service companies. It was founded in 1910, but was acquired by Phibro Corporation in 1981 and became known as Phibro-Salomon. In 1997, it merged with Smith Barney and formed Salomon Smith Barney. Then, the bank merged with Citigroup and served as the investment banking arm. Starting in 2003, Salomon Smith Barney adopted the Citigroup name.
