Stripped Treasury Securities backed by the US government and issued at a significant discount rate. Originally issued between 1982 and 1986, Merrill Lynch introduced these securities and were discounted when the federal government started issuing public STRIPS in 1986. TIGRs are sold separately in secondary markets.
