ACTIVE TRANCHE
A collateralized mortgage obligations (CMO) tranche that is at present receiving principal payments given via its investors. While the payment of interest for all tranches of a CMO is given at the time when it is first issued, the principal payments for each tranche are done according to a given schedule specified in the CMO prospectus. The tranche turns into active tranche on the period when the principal payments are received(and paying out to investors) as per the schedule, as an additive to the interest.
