ALLOCATION NOTICE

This is an official notification that came from an options clearing firm for the writer of an option wherein the current holder of that option was exercised, and in effect, the writer must then produce the necessary underlying security. This notice may require the writer of the options to sell or purchase securities in the open market for him or her to be able to fulfill his or her obligation in the contract.

An allocation notice may also refer to the way in which an advisor or a broker will inform his or her clients that showed interest in an IPO and whether his or her allocation request is available in a fraction or in full.
