BACKSTOP PURCHASER
An entity which consents to purchase all of the prevailing, unsubscribed securities from a rights offering. A backstop purchaser gives security to the issuing firm by ensuring that each newly issued shares will be bought, permitting the company to accomplish its fund raising obligations.
