BACKUP LINE
A credit line employed by a bank to screen any issue of the commercial paper for which the financing from the new paper may be unavailable. Backup line of credit adequately gives a substitute pool of liquidity for the issuer and a supply of credit for the purchaser. The backup lines often take the form of a confirmed letter of contractual or credit facility.
