BARRATRY

An unlawful act wherein an attorney encourages the filing of a lawsuit or otherwise instigate a dispute, in order to earn a profit from legal fees. The Barratry usually includes a filling of a groundless claim to acquire payment from clients. This is an illegal practice in all the states of U.S. and is subject to discipline and criminal punishment by the state bar. An attorney who have been found guilty of barratry will usually face disbarment.
