BROKER-DEALER
Individual or firm engaged in the business of buying and selling securities for itself and on the client’s behalf. In the United States, the broker-dealers are registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Most of them act as both agents and principals. Brokerages serve as brokers or agents when executing orders for their clients. They act as dealers or principals when trading for their own accounts.
