CLOSELY HELD SHARES
Shares in a publicly traded firm held by a small group of shareholders, either directly connected to the family or management, or a majority stakeholder. These are not publicly traded like common shares. As such, only minority shares are being traded under light volume. Given its nature, closely-held companies are resistant to hostile takeovers and proxy wars.
