Periodic examination conducted to ensure banks adhere to federal consumer protection laws, fair lending statutes and regulations, and the Community Reinvestment Act. Normally, examinations focus on operational areas which pose the largest compliance risks, as well as the procedure these financial institutions impose. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) carries out this examination.
