COVERED WRITER
Options seller who possess the underlying security described by the options contract. The contract holder has the underlying security to hedge against the options contract. When exercised, the writer can cover the contact since he has the security. Such options give the buyer the right, not the obligation, to either call or put shares at a specific price in the future.
