DISTRESS COST

Expenses faced by a company in financial distress, beyond the cost of conducting business. Such costs are split into two categories: ex ante, prior to the event; and ex post, after the event. Ex ante distress costs include borrowing costs. Ex post distress costs entail cost relative to filing a bankruptcy, and tapping accountants and lawyers who will work on the bankruptcy proceedings, as well as other administrative expenses linked to closing the entity.
