EXPANSION OPTION
Embedded option allowing the company, which purchased the real option, to expand its operations in the future at a little or no cost. Unlike normal options, expansion option receives its value from the flexibility it renders to a firm. Once the initial phase of a capital project has been started, the option holder can choose whether to move forward with the project. In real estate, this option gives tenants a choice to add more space in their home.
