GENERAL PROVISIONS
Balance sheet item representing funds allocated by a firm to settle losses which are expected to happen in the future. Actual losses for the earmarked funds have not yet appeared but this account is considered an asset on the balance sheet. In banks, it is viewed as a supplementary capital under the first Basel Record.
