INDEX
Statistical indicator that gauges the change in an economy or a securities market. In finance, it is an imaginary securities portfolio that represent a specific market or a part of it. Every index has its own computation methodology, normally expressed in terms of a change from a base value. These indexes serve as a measure for a specific market or industry and benchmark against the economic or financial performance being gauged.
