INSIDER TRADING
Trading a company’s securities by an individual that has access to material, nonpublic information about it. This can be viewed as illegal or legal depending on the time the insider makes the trade. It is considered illegal if the information is still nonpublic. Conversely, it is legal if the information has been made public.
