IOU
An informal document that recognizes a debt owed. It is an abbreviation (in phonetic) of "I owe you". The debt is not necessarily a monetary value; it can also involve other items. Individuals who issue IOU are given free reign in constructing and issuing an IOU. Information such as time, date, interest, and payment type are not necessary but can be implied.
