IRS PUBLICATION 555
A document, provided by the Internal Revenue Services (IRS), for married taxpayers who are domicile in a state supporting community property laws and submit separate tax returns. Income and property is regarded as a community if the married couples acquired or owned it. Everything else is separate. Couples who file separately report half of their combined income and all of their separate earnings.
