J. HAROLD CHANDLER
The current Chief Operating Officer of Univers Workplace Benefits. Chandler was the former President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of Unum Provident Corporation, a disability insurance provider in the United States. Prior to Unum Provident and Univers, he became the President and CEO of Provident Life and Accident Company of America. Provident was performing poorly but Chandler helped the company to gain back profitability through certain changes such as acquiring Paul Revere Corporation and Genex.
In 1999, he led a merger with Unum Corporation to create Unum Provident. He became Chief Operating Officer then CEO of the newly-formed company. The firm fired Chandler in 2003 following the insurer suffered from bad publicity over numerous customer complaints and negative financial results.
