LAK
Currency abbreviation for Lao kip, Laos’ official currency and divided into 100 att. This is presented with a symbol that looks like capital K with a horizontal dash in the middle. It was first released in 1952, which had holes in the center like the Chinese coins. But it was replaced by Pathet Lao kip in 1976 and Lao PDR kips in 1979.
Laos’s economy had experienced over 100% inflation and 500% depreciation in late 1990s.
