LOAN MODIFICATION
The process of altering the terms and conditions of an existing loan in line with the borrower’s long-term incapability to repay the loan. Made by a borrower or lender, it usually involves reducing interest rate, extending the duration of the term, a different type of loan, or any combination of the three. A lender might be open to changing the loan because the cost of loan modification is less expensive than the cost of default.
