MANAGEMENT INVESTMENT COMPANY
A formal name for a company which sells and manages security portfolios. This is one of the three fundamental types of investment companies; the other two are unit investment trusts and face-amount certificate companies. This type of company, headed by a Chief Executive Officer with a team of officers and a board of directors, lets investors to pool their investment capital with other traders to buy professionally-managed groups of diversified securities.
