MARKET DISCOUNT
Difference between a bond’s indicated redemption price and purchase price in the secondary market, if bought at a price that is below par. It occurs when the bond’s price in the secondary market drops, usually after an increase in interest rates. In original issue discount (OID) securities like zero-coupon bonds, it pertains to the difference of the purchase price and stated price, plus accumulated OID.
