MARKET INDEX
A metric that is designed to track the overall performance of the group of stocks on a specific date. Several stocks or other investment vehicles are combined to get their total value. These are designed to determine the market performance in general and/or follow a particular sector. The indexes represent the entire stock market and monitor changes in the market from time-to-time.
