MISAPPROPRIATION THEORY
The act of stealing confidential information from an employer and using it to trade securities based on the misappropriated insider knowledge. This can also include using insider knowledge to yield profit from buying or selling stocks in any company. In America, an individual guilty based on this theory will likely be convicted of insider trading.
