MORTGAGE SERVICING RIGHTS - MSR
A contractual agreement which allows the original lender to sell the right (or rights) of an existing mortgage to another party who is expert in various functions of servicing mortgages. The right to collect payments monthly, place taxes and insurance premiums in an escrow account, and forward interest and principal to the mortgage lender are some of the common rights included in the agreement.
