ODIOUS DEBT
A nation's debt is considered odious debt when the government leaders use borrowed funds in ways that do not benefit its citizens. Many scholars argue that the next governments should not be held responsible for odious debt acquired by earlier regimes. In practice, countries end up paying it to support their ability to borrow at favorable interest rates.
