RELATIONSHIP TEST

This is a test that a person needs to pass to be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return. Relationship test has several criteria, and so long as one of them is met, the person is qualified to be a dependent. It mandates that the person in question should either be a lineal ancestor, sibling, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, in-law or anyone other than the spouse of the taxpayer who lived in the taxpayer’s household during the entire year.
