SSN
The Social Security Number (SSN) is a nine-digit number created in 1936 to be assigned to individuals as a way to track income and decide benefit entitlements. Individuals who may be granted a SSN must be citizens, temporary residents, and permanent residents. Originally the SSN only track income and determines benefits but it also now tracks credit record.
