SAR

The Special Administrative Region (SAR) is the China’s regional area’s that have unique geographical locations such as Hong Kong and Macau. These SARs have high degrees of autonomy as a part of the People’s Republic of China. Hong Kong was formerly under the British colony while Macau was under the Portuguese colony. They were returned to the control of China in 1997 and 1999 respectively. The two SARs are living under the "one country, two systems" scheme that Deng Xiaoping developed. This means that the two SARs are able to have great autonomy. Their governments are mostly controlled by themselves such as executive, judicial, and legislative excluding diplomatic relations and defense.
