A sponsor, in the financial industry, may be one of three definitions. First, in the field of stocks, he or she is an influential investor that has the power to create a demand for a security because he or she thinks it is good investment. Second, in the field of mutual funds, it is an underwriting company that has mutual fund shares to offer. Third, in the field of exchange-traded funds, he or she is the an entity that manages the regulatory materials to comply with the SEC for the creation of the ETF.
