STAPLE THESIS

Staple thesis is an economic growth theory created by economic historian and Canadian Harold Innis along with W.A. Mackintosh. They intended for the theory to elaborate Canada’s settlement pattern and economic development and how the exploitation and exportation of natural resources shaped Canada’s economic evolution. Since then, it has been used to map the economic evolution of countries beyond Canada that have high exports. The focus of staple thesis is on the traditional commodities or the staples role in forming the economy especially if it’s rich in resources.
