STOCK
Security representing ownership interest in a company, as well as a claim on its assets and earnings. There are two main types of stock: common and preferred. Common stock owners are given the right to vote at shareholders’ meetings and receive dividends. Conversely, preferred stock does not have voting rights, but has greater claim on assets and earnings than common shares. Also called equity or shares.
