STROUD POUND

Local, private currency used in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Launched in 2009, it is an initiative supporting and stimulating the local economy by engaging consumers to purchase locally produced goods and services to develop businesses and jobs. The local currency is structured on the chiemgauer, a local currency in southern Germany. The Stroud Pound Co-op Ltd. administered the currency. Each Stroud pound is recorded and backed by sterling pound in a designated bank account.
