Acquiree; company subject to a merger or acquisition endeavor. It can be encountered in many ways based on the target firm’s attitude toward the acquirer. If the management and shareholders find the transaction favorable, a friendly takeover can occur. Otherwise, the target firm may undergo a hostile takeover.
