ALAN GREENSPAN

A former chairman of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), the Fed's principal monetary policy-making body, and as well as the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He held the position at the Fed for 18 years from 1987 until early 2006 when he was replaced by Ben Bernanke. The former president Ronald Reagan was the first to appoint him as the Fed's helm and kept by his successors such as George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and President George W. Bush.
