ANTEDATE
A date specified on a check or legal contract that is before the actual date of occurrence. An antedate may at times be used if there is a delay in the contract, to ensure that the parties will not suffer from delays in the contract. The antedates can also be employed illegally to benefit the parties involved by changing dates in contracts to accomplish more desirable terms.
Also referred as "backdate."
