AT A DISCOUNT

This particularly points to a stock which is sold for lower than its par or nominal value. At a discount also connotes to stocks or other securities that are sold beneath the present market value, the same to a sale on goods at a retail establishment.

The par or nominal value for a security, specified in the company charter, is the lowest price that a stock of a specific class can be sold after an initial public offering. Majority of states have laws restricting companies from issuing stocks at a price less than par.
