BALTIC DRY INDEX - BDI
A trade and shipping index designed by the London-based based Baltic Exchange which measures changes of how much raw materials such fossil fuels, metals, and grains are transported by sea. The Baltic Exchange straightforwardly contacts the shipping brokers to check price levels on a particular route, time to delivery (speed) and product to transport.
Baltic Dry Index is made up of three sub-indexes which measures various sizes of dry bulk carriers(merchant ships) - Panamax, Supramax, and Capesize. Numerous geographic routes are assessed for each index to provide depth to the composite measurement of the index.
Also called as the "Dry Bulk Index."
