COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT ACT - CRA
Act encouraging depository institutions to help meet credit needs of the community, specifically low and moderate income neighborhoods. Enacted in 1977, it mandates federal regulators to evaluate the record of every bank or thrift to help fulfill its obligations to the community. Then, the record will be used to assess applications for approval of bank mergers, acquisitions, charters, deposit facilities, and branch openings.
